Miniature pyro effects shot of a model jetty for a giant monster film.
There is always something cool about making scale models. This job was filled with many individual models to make, and the crew had a lot of fun just going for it.
We built a series of buildings along the shore line all in 1/4 scale. We didn’t have a great deal of time to put all this together and used the fact that it was set at night to hide a few finer details.
We are all fans of giant monsters stomping around and this was a great deal of fun to be working on.
All the buildings started as MDF boxes with detail added on. The roofs were thin foil stamped into corrugated panels, glued on then painted heavy rust. Luckily there was no interiors, no time to do it.
Several 1/4 scale boats were made out of thin ply and MDF.
Eric was a master at making these boats and knocked them out incredibly fast. One of Eric’s early jobs was working on Gerry Anderson shows such as Thunderbirds.
The bowser was fun and lit up just like the real thing.
The final build was an underwater landscape where drums of nuclear waste contaminate the area. As always happens, giant monsters grow from spilled nuclear waste.
